Martha Cohen Stine is a founding partner of Cohen Stine Kapoor LLP, one of New York’s “Go-To Law Firms,” and has been considered a top attorney in the field of family law for more than 25 years. She received her BA, cum laude, from New York University, and her JD, cum laude, from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where she was an Editor of the Law Review. 

Ms. Stine enjoys the highest AV® Preeminent™ rating (5 out of 5) by Martindale and Hubbell, the nationally recognized legal directory, signifying the highest rating for legal ability and professional standards of conduct. She is the former Chair of the New York County Lawyers Association Matrimonial Law Section, sits on the Executive Committee of the New York State Bar Association Family Law Section, and is consistently listed in Super Lawyers as one of NYC’s Top 50 Female Lawyers and Top 100 Lawyers. Ms. Stine organizes and presents CLE courses where she is a speaker and/or panelist. She was interviewed for a prominent article that appeared in the NY Law Journal at the beginning of the pandemic entitled, “Counseling Panicked and Desperate Clients: Practicing Family Law in a Pandemic.”

Ms. Stine represents the City’s top CEOs, bank executives, real estate developers, business owners, actors, TV personalities, Broadway singers, opera stars, legal professionals and other professionals as well as their spouses and partners. While Ms. Stine strives for amicable resolutions of disputes, she also has extensive litigation and trial experience in New York's trial and appellate courts, with an excellent record of success in her litigated cases, including well known legal victories and precedent-setting decisions. She appears frequently in the media and is often quoted as an expert in her field and has been involved in many high profile matters throughout her career. Ms. Stine is a battle-hardened expert in all aspects of family law including divorce and custody matters, prenuptial and post nuptial contracts, same sex family issues, and UCCJEA and Hague Convention cases.  

Her clients’ hopes for a brighter future are what keep her going. She is dedicated to bringing clients out of a dark place to a new and happier chapter, where they can begin living the rest of their lives.

Ms. Stine is a trained singer with a strong connection to theater and the arts. She sings with the well-known Blue Hill Troupe, a Gilbert & Sullivan company that donates the proceeds of all ticket sales to local New York charities. Ms. Stine has also performed with Utopia Opera, Village Light Opera Group and Island Lyric Opera. In addition, Ms. Stine has been the producer and director of original bar association musicals performed by star-struck lawyers and judges, including the famous Twelfth Night shows that have been a tradition at the NYC Bar Association for more than 50 years. Ms. Stine is an active member of the Lotos Club, a literary club founded by Mark Twain, where she Co-Chairs the Music Committee. She is also a member of and sits on the Board of Directors of the Lambs, America’s oldest theatrical club.
